Senior Seminar
This course imparts the practical knowledge and skills needed to pursue a career or post-graduate education in the visual arts. Students gain experience in resume writing, crafting an artist’s statement, creating an exhibition invitation, documenting their artwork, and preparing their artwork for gallery or museum presentation. The focus of the course is the student’s involvement in the annual, juried Senior Art Show which opens at the end of the spring semester. All of the students prepare their own individual pieces for the show. Once the jurying process is completed, those students whose work is selected for inclusion in the exhibition assist with the installation of the work, the creation of a group invitation, and the hosting of the exhibition opening. By the end of the semester, all of the students are expected to prepare an artist’s portfolio, an artist’s statement, a resume, and a gallery proposal, as well as create a catalog and website showcasing their work.
